Effective May 30, evening and weekend PASS service and scheduling will have several changes. Weekday PASS service is not changing; rides may be scheduled and taken as usual. The changes are as follows:

  • The existing service area will be divided into four quadrants. Hub centers will be located in each sector.
PASS will now operate as a deviated fixed-route service, meaning it will have scheduled times to be at the hub centers. Those hubs are:
  • Northwest Sector: Alpine Meijer, Grandview Apartments, Standale Meijer.
Northeast Sector: Gaslight Village D&W, Knapp Meijer, Plainfield at 4 Mile.
Southeast Sector: Kalamazoo Meijer, Kentwood City Hall, Woodland Mall.
Southwest Sector: 54th St. Meijer, Burlingame D&W, Rivertown Crossings Mall.
  • Trips will be scheduled to connect passengers to a bus route via one of the hub centers. Point-to-point service will have to be scheduled to fit into the hub center time points and therefore will only be available on a very limited basis, even within the same sector.
Walk-ons are allowed at hub centers, but may be denied if the vehicle is full, or the schedule cannot accommodate any additional trips. It is better to schedule your ride in advance.
Advance reservations will be taken from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. seven days a week. All trips must be scheduled no later than the day before service is needed.

This change is the direct result of a court decision that requires The Rapid to return to PASS service as it existed when it was first created in 2001 until negotiations with ATU Local 836 can be completed. The Rapid apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
