On-line Carpool Matching Launches
Area residents now have a better way to connect with potential carpool partners. The Rapid is excited to announce the launch of "Greenride," a new software tool for residents of Kent, Allegan, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties.
Participants enroll in the system by entering their e-mail address and a confidential password. They can then enter their home address, work address, times of travel, and contact information. Greenride automatically generates a list of potential carpool partners and drafts an e-mail asking if they are willing to carpool. To protect users' privacy, only major cross streets are shown in the initial e-mail. Participants control when and how further information is shared with prospective carpool partners. The Greenride software includes a cost savings calculator, bus route information, and carpool lot locations.
"Carpooling saves employees money by reducing commuting costs, allows the employer more flexibility in meeting parking needs, and benefits the entire community by taking single-occupant vehicles off the road which reduces congestion and improves air quality," said Peter Varga, Executive Director and CEO of The Rapid.
