Notice of Public Hearings

Notice of upcoming public hearings taking place on February 12th and 13th

Updated FTA Title VI legislation requires transit providers must perform a Service Equity Analysis six (6) months before the operation of any new revenue service (Silver Line BRT). A Service Equity Analysis evaluates any potential impact to minority & low-income populations affected by the introduction of the Silver Line BRT to The Rapid’s transit system.  Staff is seeking public input to the proposed disparate impact & disproportionate burden policy for major service changes not to exceed twenty (20%) percent based on the cumulative impact of the service change.  The Disparate Impact & Disproportionate Burden Policy is defined as a policy or practice that minimizes the level of disparity between minority & non-minority populations and low-income & non-low-income populations that are impacted by service changes.  Maintaining compliance with FTA Title VI guidance is critical for The Rapid to obtain federal funding.

To garner public comment, two public hearings will be held in the Community Room at Rapid Central Station, located at 250 Grandville on:

  1. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 7:30am – 8:30am
  2. Thursday, Feb 13, 5:30pm – 6:30pm

Staff will hear comments regarding:

  • Title VI policy to be adopted by The Rapid Board.
  • Fare Media Changes
    - Elimination of the 4-Day pas
    - Addition of a 7-Day pas
    - Reducing the cost of a 1-Day pass

The Rapid staff will be available for questions and/or comments. Written comments may be submitted for the record no later than Monday, February 10, 2014.   Please send comments to The Rapid Planning Department, 300 Ellsworth St. SW, Grand Rapids, MI  49503.
