* Reduced Fare requires proof of disability or age 65+. Valid ID for persons with
disabilities includes a Rapid-issued photo ID card or Medicare card. The Rapid honors
1/2 fare for Medicare card holders. Seniors may use a Medicare card, driver’s license,
or other proof of age 65+.
Children under 3 feet and 6 inches ride free with a fare-paying adult.
You can pay with cash for your ride. However, we do not provide change on the buses. We
recommend using the exact amount for your fare with single dollar bills and coins. All types of
US currency will be accepted.
You do not get transfers when paying with cash. You will need to pay a fare for each bus trip
you take. Transfers are a benefit of using a Wave card.

Riders can use contactless payments, such as debit/credit cards or mobile wallets, to ride The
Rapid. Just like with a Wave card, this payment option can be used on fixed routes, and BRT
lines. Simply tap the card or device that has the contactless symbol at the reader, wait for the
green check, and away you go!
* We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay.
* Riders will receive a standard transfer and can earn daily fare capping ($5.25 daily
max) by using the same card or device for each trip. Monthly fare capping is not
available for contactless payments. You can check your contactless payment history
and learn more by visiting wave.ridetherapid.org.
Transfers were developed to help customers travel conveniently within our system on a single fare. With the Wave card or contactless payments, your transfer time window is 105 minutes and begins with your first tap. This means that you have 105 minutes to ride anywhere in the system.
Your first tap will charge a normal fare to your account. Subsequent taps within the 105-minute transfer time frame will not charge your account.
*Transfers are not available when paying a cash fare.
In order to qualify for reduced fare on our fixed-route system, one must be age 65 or older, or have a current qualifying disability. All applicants not in The Rapid database must complete and submit a reduced fare application or visit Rapid Central Station. Learn More.
