Frequently Asked Questions:
What is happening to Route 3?
Route 3 will be replaced with a combination of Route 1 (along Madison Avenue between Franklin and Burton) and Route 2 (along Jefferson Avenue between Cherry and Franklin). You can plan your new commute using our schedule book at ridetherapid.org/mobility-for-all.
I ride Route 7. How will Remembrance be served?
Route 7 will continue to serve Remembrance and Wilson until on-demand service is available in 2022.
Why are you changing Route 15?
The Route 15 alignment will be adjusted to remove the segment on the East Beltline and on Leonard east of Leffingwell. This stretch contributes to on-time performance issues and removing it improves efficiency.
Will you continue to serve the Wyoming VA Clinic on Route 16?
Beginning August 30, the Wyoming VA Clinic will be served by Route 1 Division/Madison. Route 1 will serve the Metro Health Village campus in the same manner Route 16 does currently, and the stop in front of the VA Clinic will remain in its current location.
When will the bus return to normal hours?
At the start of the pandemic, certain aspects of The Rapid’s service were reduced due to funding decreases, including late evening service. Restoring this service as soon as possible remains a priority for The Rapid, and all available options for funding are being explored. Updates will be provided as they are available.
Will 3 Mile Road be served with these changes?
Three Mile Road corridor was identified in Mobility for All as a high-need area for transit, but it is difficult to serve this area with fixed-route service due to lack of sidewalks and destinations that are set back far from the main road. To work around these issues, on-demand service is being planned to provide flexible service that can bring customers directly to these destinations on Three Mile Road and in the surrounding areas. Planning for this service is currently underway and is expected to be launched in early 2022.
These changes will make your commute more accessible, efficient, and reliable.
These service improvements provide:
- Buses coming more often on our busiest routes
- Buses arriving on time more often
- Easier transfers between routes
- A new type of service for parts of Kentwood and Walker called Mobility-On-Demand Zones (planned for January of 2022
About The Mobility for All Project:
Over the last two years, the Mobility For All project has examined the entire Rapid fixed-route system with public input, technical analysis, and stakeholder outreach. With formal approval from The Rapid’s Board of Directors, these changes are designed to provide the best service for as many customers as possible.
This is a budget-neutral plan: in order to make improvements on the routes with the highest demand and usage, service on routes with low demand and usage must be decreased or repurposed in other areas.
Our team at The Rapid understands that these changes will cause disruptions for some riders, and we are committed to providing information and assistance to make this transition as smooth as possible.
