The Rapid Installs New Active Air Purification Systems on Buses

The Rapid contracted with United Safety & Survivability Corporation to install Active Air Purification systems on its bus fleet. The Active Air Purification systems add another layer of safety, giving customers peace of mind by constantly and effectively eliminating more than 99% of germs, viruses, and bacteria in the air and on surfaces.

The new air purification units were installed on nearly 70% of buses in The Rapid’s Fleet. This consists of all Silver Line, Laker Line, and newer buses. Air purification systems were not installed on any buses scheduled to be retired within the next two years. The active air system will become the standard on all future bus procurements.

How It Works

The units use ultraviolet (UV-C) technology similar to the UV-C systems in hospitals to purify the air and surfaces using the existing HVAC systems on buses, increasing the air quality and safety of customers. This technology actively eliminates viral and bacterial pathogens as well as odors, molds, and mildew by utilizing safe levels of naturally occurring hydrogen peroxide.

The improved air purification protects against the spread of viruses and is effective against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. New and returning customers can have confidence in riding The Rapid knowing that the air in its buses is constantly being purified.

Commitment to Safety

“Safety is our highest priority for our customers and staff. The new Active Air Purification systems reduce the spread of illness and make traveling on our buses even safer. I considered this an essential investment for the well-being of our community and bus operators.”- Deb Prato, CEO of The Rapid
