Rapid On Demand is a curb-to-curb rideshare service operated in partnership with Via. During the six-month pilot program, the app-based service is available to GO!Bus-eligible individuals in the specific travel zone located in the Grand Rapids and Kentwood area.

What is Rapid On Demand?
Rapid On Demand is a curb-to-curb, same day, shared-ride paratransit service. Utilizing GO!Bus paratransit vehicles, the service provides same-day rides to individuals with a wait time of fewer than 25 minutes. No fixed-routes and an infinite number of on-demand stops within the app's service area. Passengers share their ride and save money!
How does it work?
GO!Bus-eligible riders can book a trip on a Rapid On Demand vehicle using the free app. Customers enter their pick-up and drop-off locations a vehicle will pick them up based off the nearest curb-side availability.
Who can use this service?
Riders who are eligible for GO!Bus can utilize Rapid On Demand if they live and travel within the specified service area.
What are the hours of operation?
The service is offered between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The service is not available Saturday or Sunday. Rapid On Demand will provide riders with advance notice on any holiday-related schedule changes.
What is the service area?
The Rapid On Demand service area includes a significant portion of the Grand Rapids downtown area, as well as the greater Eastern Grand Rapids area. Parts of Kentwood are also within the service area. Please refer to the map below or your in-app map.
What is the normal wait time to be picked up by a Rapid On Demand Operator?
Riders are able to view estimated wait times when they enter their pick up and drop off locations in the Rapid On Demand app. Wait times will vary depending on nearby operator availability but generally should not exceed 10-12 minutes.
How much will the ride cost?
A $3.50 flat per trip fee will be charged for each trip.
How do I pay?
Riders can pay by debit or credit card, GO!Bus ticket, or with cash. The card on file can be changed through the Rapid On Demand app or by calling (616) 774-1195.
Can I pay with cash?
Yes! Rapid On Demand allows for cash payment. Simply select cash as your preferred method of payment in the sidebar in-app.
I don’t have a smartphone to download the Rapid On Demand app. Can I still book a ride?
Unfortunately, at this time riders do need a smartphone or tablet to book their ride. The Rapid is looking into implementing Call-In Rides in the near future.
I live outside the current service area. Will Rapid On Demand ever be available to my Grand Rapids neighborhood?
At this time, the service area for this Rapid On Demand has been set for the six-month pilot program. Rapid On Demand encourages feedback and would love to hear from those needing rides outside of the current and planned services areas. How will I identify my ride once it arrives?
Buses used for the rideshare program are clearly marked with a Rapid On Demand logo on the back of the vehicle and inside the vehicles.
