GO!Bus
In keeping with our commitment of reporting system performance to the community, the GO!Bus first quarter Report Card has been posted.
Door-to-door mobility for seniors and the disabled.
GO!Bus offers disabled and senior persons an affordable way to travel anywhere in a 180-square mile area of Grand Rapids. Service hours mirror the regular bus service hours seven days a week except major holidays. Just call before 4:30 p.m. at least one day in advance—(616) 456-6141.
Looking for Volunteers!
If you are currently registered as a GO!Bus passenger and would be interested in helping the drivers learn first hand how to best assist passengers, please let us know!
When newly hired, and regularly thereafter, GO!Bus drivers are trained to provide excellent passenger assistance. This includes proper securement of wheelchairs, use of the lift, assisting passengers with visual impairments to and from the vehicle, making sure all passengers get to and from the vehicle and ride safely.
In an effort to get the most out of this training time, The Rapid and MV are collaborating with a new training program that will allow passengers to be a part of this training.
The Rapid will bring the drivers to you!
If you can spare about an hour every other month or so, we would like to have you contact The Rapid. When a class is scheduled, we will make prior arrangements with you for a vehicle to be brought to your home (or other location that is convenient for you) at a time that is convenient for you. You will meet the drivers and the trainer and then will be asked to let them assist you as if you were taking a trip.
We currently have 5 passenger volunteers and this has proven to be so helpful for both passengers and drivers that we would like to enlarge the program.
Please call the GO!Bus office at 616-456-6141 and ask for Laura. We would love to explain further and sign you up to be a passenger volunteer.
To qualify for GO!Bus, you must be ADA certified or over 65. Go!Bus is also available to companions to qualifying riders, personal care attendants and service animals.
To ensure that there is a seat available, be sure to notify GO!Bus that you will have someone accompanying you when you make your reservation.
