US Secretary of Transportation Visits The Rapid
US Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, visited The Rapid on Saturday, January 28, 2012 to "cut the ribbon" on the remodeled and renovated Wealthy Operations Center.
The Rapid was honored to host Ray LaHood, the US Secretary of Transportation, at a celebration marking the "reopening" of the Wealthy Operations Center.
The project started over two years ago with funding support from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Over the course of the project our Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities teams had to work around the construction while maintaining our daily service levels. We are proud to report that in that time period, we continued to set ridership records and were able to expand and enhance service.
The finished project was completed on schedule and under budget, and we are seeking LEED Silver certification for this sustainable, efficient facility. Hundereds of local jobs were created as a result of this project, and The Rapid is grateful for the high quality work that was done by everyone who worked over the past two years to deliver such a wonderful finished product.
